The Blue Ridge Parkway
ANNUAL PRESENTATION OF AN AUTHENTIC 1780 ENCAMPMENT ON THE
The Overmountain Victory Trail
'Marching to the Battle of Kings Mountain'

How did they do it, these volunteers, beating the representatives of the mightiest force on earth, the British Army?  And doing it in one hour, fighting uphill at Kings Mountain, they started the landslide which resulted in the complete surrender of the British one year and twelve days later at Yorktown.
See, hear, experience the Revolutionary War events and strategies, hardships and risks, victories and defeats.  It is all there for your enjoyment at Gillespie Gap on the Blue Ridge at the Overmountain Victory Celebration, sponsored by the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Mitchell County Chamber of Commerce.

Saturday, enjoy the special tea at the encampment and a spirited skirmish with the Red Coats at an old apple orchard nearby.  Take the candlelight tour on Friday and Saturday nights, and eavesdrop on the strategists and soldiers of both sides as they plan the coming battle.  Sunday the public is invited to an encampment church service. This is a "must see" for the whole family on the grounds of the NC Minerals Museum at the Spruce Pine exit of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
