Music at the Orchard

The music program at The Orchard at Altapass is supported by The Altapass Foundation, a non-profit membership organization.

Weekend visitors to The Orchard are quickly drawn to the happy sounds of live music and dancing feet.  Every Saturday The Orchard showcases country and bluegrass bands that proudly display their Appalachian roots. 

Western North Carolina is a virtual fountain of mountain music, pure as the water in our mountain streams.  Nashville may be the big river for country music, but The Orchard, other nearby music venues and the front porches of mountain cabins are the headwaters of that music.

Sundays The Orchard hosts a variety of authentic LOCAL MUSIC, including gospel, blues, 50's rock, folk, show tunes, classical, and, again, country and bluegrass.  Our Sunday shows reflect the blending of traditional mountain bands and the music of musicians who have recently found these hazy blue mountain tops to be the perfect place to hone and display their genuine talents.

Free Homespun Music - A celebration of good times

Every Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 - 4:30

Starting May 20, 2006 through the end of October, 2006

All of this exceptional entertainment is given free to the joyful audiences that gather faithfully each weekend to cheer for the musicians, enjoy the variety of great sounds, and to dance with an enthusiasm that must be experienced. 

The core of the audience are regulars, equally divided among folks whose families settled the area centuries before, retirees who have relocated to the mountains after years of city living, and summer residents who bring house guests and family from throughout the country to join in on the fun.  Dance styles are as varied as the dancers.  Flat foot cloggers are as comfortable here as elegant waltzers, everybody from 2 to 102!
